Fall Fishing
The fall fishing season is upon us and with it comes some of the most amazing inshore action anywhere. This is without a doubt the best time of the year to target redfish, trout, and black drum. October and November offer the best tides for tailing redfish on the flooded grass flats. With tides in the nine foot range, redfish can be found in areas normally not flooded by smaller tides where they feed mostly on small crabs. This creates an awesome angling opportunity. Whether you choose to cast a fly or an artificial lure, this is not a scene you will soon forget. During the fall and even into the winter months, redfish gather into large schools during low tide and cruise the mud flats searching for an easy meal. With schools of up to a hundred fish, in water barely deep enough to cover their backs, a well presented fly or lure does not stand a chance. The flats are not the only place you will find fish in the fall. Speckled trout, redfish, and black drum can all be found around creek mouths and oyster laden shorelines. With fish feeding on shrimp and small baitfish, live bait fishing is usually most productive. As falling tides force the bait out of the marsh and away from the natural oyster reefs, game fish gather and wait for an easy target. Present a bait in a natural fashion and expect great results.
